Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy (CMCA) is a K-12 Colorado Springs charter school. CMCA was founded in 1995 by several parents who were interested in a more rigorous curriculum, and it has continued to provide excellence in education in a safe, structured environment by adhering to the tenets of its founders.
Our K-6 school utilizes Direct Instruction and the Core Knowledge® curriculum to achieve student mastery. Students are taught in a fast paced, highly interactive, teacher-directed manner and are expected to learn specific facts and skills at each grade level. Our Junior High provides a transition between our elementary and high school programs that is focused on the unique needs of students in their pre-teen/early teen years. In The Vanguard School, our high school, students build upon their knowledge and develop critical thinking skills by taking honors and AP level classes that prepare them for college and beyond. The onus for student achievement is placed squarely on the school. There is a high level of accountability for teachers and other staff because we firmly believe that if the student has not learned, then the teacher has not taught.
